Blog: TV’s Gary’s Seared Beef Mac

Featured in BoxMac 50: 4th of July Mix-in Mac Fest

RECIPE

1 lb 80/20 Ground Beef
1 b Cracker Barrel Sharp Cheddar Mac
2 Tbsp Oil (make sure it has a high smoke point)
Salt (to taste)
Black Pepper (to taste)

Start preparing the mac according to the instructions on the box.
Form the ground beef into a patty roughly the size of a large saute pan.
Salt the ground beef generously on both sides.
Put the saute pan on the stove and set to medium-high heat.
Once the pan is hot, add oil and wait for it to shimmer.
Carefully place ground beef into the pan and allow it to sear until you see a dark brown crust form.
When checking the sear, be careful not to disturb the whole patty.
Flip the patty, and sear the other side.
Break up the meat into bite-size chunks, and let it cook through.
Once both the ground beef and mac are done, mix them together with the leftover beef fat and brown bits from the saute pan.
Mix in black pepper to taste.
